Cris Rocha was born in Porto Alegre in 1967 and has lived in São Paulo since 2000. She graduated in Fine Arts from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in 1992.

In the 1980s, the artist studied painting in Porto Alegre with Maria Tomaselli and Anico Herskovits, and etching in São Paulo with Paulo Pasta and Claudio Mubarac. In the 1990s, Rocha worked at the Museo del Grabado while living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She later moved back to Porto Alegre to work alongside Eduardo Haesbaert at the Iberê Camargo Foundation.

Upon returning to São Paulo, where she established her studio, the artist was mentored by Evandro Carlos Jardim and Ernesto Bonato, participating in various projects in the field of etching, such as the Lambe-lambe Project. In 2010, Rocha coordinated an etching workshop at SESC Pompéia, and in 2012 and 2014, she led workshops at the Chapel School in São Paulo. Since 2013, she has been attending Paulo Pasta’s pintura: prática e reflexão (painting: practice and reflection) course at the Tomie Ohtake Institute.
